A NEW TOURNAMENT SEASON!

If you are looking for information or championship photos for our Blues Cup Labor Day Tournament which was held on September 2, 3, and 4 you can go directly to the Blues Cup Website.

When the So Cal Blues were founded there were about three or four major tournaments and a few smaller ones. We are not sure if this is a good thing or not but these days at the most competitive clubs, as soon as teams finish the regular season (state cup) they begin playing in more tournaments. Tournaments, tournaments, tournaments...and more tournaments. When it comes to tournaments, there is no way we can fit them all here. Once again, if you don't find your championship photo here either no one submitted it or the webmaster is tired, lazy or both. We will leave that one up to you to figure out. If it is here you will need to navigate a bit to find what you are looking for; happy hunting! Outstanding or recent championship or team performances may get top billing at the top of the page then below they will be listed chronologically. We may leave out a couple but as best we can we will try to reconstruct what happened in this current season. For older tournament results through the years you should navigate to the Blues News Archive and go to the particular season you desire; there are also even older championship photos in the Blues Photo Archive. If you are interested in filling in the gaps Blues News loves the submission of high resolution championship photos along with brief accounts of which tournament it was, the time of year, what happen during the games and or scores, oh and if someone had a special performance that would be cool too, especially if it was your daughter that scored the hat trick.

BLUES WIN INAGURAL CHAMPIONS CUP TITLE!

ORLANDO (April 16, 2006) - Southern California Blues won the inaugural US Club Soccer Champions Cup title on Easter Sunday, April 16 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The country's elite clubs brought their U13, U15 and U17 teams to Orlando, Fla. April 13-16 to determine the top clubs by competing on the field. Final Champions Cup club standings, results and photos of the victors are all available at www.usclubsoccer.org.

Three clubs: CASL, FC DELCO (PA) and the Southern California Blues; entered the final day of Champions Cup play in contention for the girls' championship as each club earned berths into two first- place matches plus a third-place match. After the Blues fell 1-0in the U13 title game to CASL; defeated the Internationals (OH), 2-0, in the U15 third-place game; and edged FC DELCO, 2-1, to win the U17 bracket, they had to sweat out the girls' U15 title match between CASL and FC DELCO. CASL, who had first place U13 and fourth place U17 finishes to their credit, could have taken the Champions Cup crown by defeating FC DELCO's U15s. In a scoreless match that required overtime, FC DELCO's Ahren Lewis served a 30-yard free kick into the penalty box with seven minutes remaining in the second extra 10-minute period. Teammate Taylor Thompson powered her header past the CASL goalkeeper, who got a hand on the ball but couldn't keep it from crossing the goal line to give the Blues the inaugural Champions Cup title (click photo on right to enlarge).

"My club winning this event, it makes me so proud to know that we all came together," added Blues U17 outside midfielder Nicki Friedberg (left). "We all were pretty much in the same hotel and we were rooting each other on. It was a good bonding experience because outside of tournaments, you're not unified. In [the Champions Cup], you just formed a big cohesive family and we were victorious. It was amazing."
