FIRST ANNUAL SO CAL BLUES FAMILY NIGHT
AT
L.A. GALAXY

Saturday July 10, 7:00 PM at the Home Depot Center

Were you there? Hey if not you missed an awesome event. A group of approximately 500 Blues club members and fans from our organization moseyed up and down the 405 freeway to attend the Blues pre-game festivities and the Galaxy game itself. There was a sea of lime green and blue who watched the Galaxy defeat the Colorado Rapids 2-0. Thanks parents and players for your participation and making this a fun and worthwhile evening.

Aside from the Galaxy game itself, the highlights of the evening were the Blues festivities outside the stadium prior to entering the Home Depot stadium, entering the field and having our girls scrimmage one another on the stadium field, the long Blues high five line for the Galaxy players when they entered the field of play. Last but not least it was a pleasure to see the interaction and togetherness of all of our players from different ages and teams...ya just had to smile!

So many people, all those tickets, the questions, who should go where, when do we play, what color uniform? Thank you to all who helped organize this evening and especially Michelle Gillen for your hard work and making this most difficult event a huge success. The kids, parents, coaches, and club are extremely grateful!

2002 GRADS HONORED AT

Friday, July 19, 2002, Joan Sternberg put on one of the most successful fundraising parties the Blues have ever held. The price of admission was included in the Blues Dues for the season as each family was awarded two $50 tickets to the event as part of the player fees for the year.

The event was held at the El Adobe de Capistrano Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano where there was a Graduating Senior Recognition ceremony. Outgoing Blues president Dave Mildrew spoke on behalf of U18 Blues Coach Tad Bobak and read a letter from Tad which you can read on the right. Here were the words Tad sent for Dave to read as Tad was out of town with the Adult Blues in their quest to win the National Championship.

Hugh Donald then spoke about his seniors from the U17 and U17 II Blues and gave a wonderful speach of his own. Then everyone got to the business of partying beginning with the Presidential Fiesta Buffet, refreshments..., an auction, dancing to a live band featuring a mix of latin, jazz, latest hits, and finally some door prizes. If you missed it, you missed out! Thanks Joan!

Letter from Tad Bobak To all the Blues seniors,

Thanks for your commitment, dedication, support and success that you have brought to the Southern California Blues over your youth soccer careers.

It's been fantastic seeing you all grow from young girls into strong and talented soccer players and women. But above all, thanks for being good and positive human beings.

I want to congratulate all you seniors for the great achievements in getting accepted into college and embarking on another treacherous mountain climb as well as earning your college soccer scholarships. All tremendous accomplishments.

Seniors, once again...An awesome, inspiring performance that you all put on during your careers. I hope you will look back on your time with the Southern California Blues as fondly as I will. Remember, we are a family and we are always here for you, even as you go out into the world...a world we hope you are more armed, loaded, prepared and ready for after dealing with me, Larry and Hugh for all these years. Best wishes and God bless you all.

BLUES FESTIVAL

Live Blues Band!Did you miss it? In the era of clubs raising fees to keep up with rising costs of coaching, facilities, equipment, and such, the Blues held their annual fund raising event at the prestigious Marbella Country Club in their effort to keep player fees affordable. This year the event was a live music Blues Festival featuring 2000 LBS of Blues Band. The Blues Festival began with cocktails at 6:30, and was followed by dinner. There was a live and silent auction and a "opportunity drawing" with 3 prizes valued at $1,000 apiece. Senior Coach Hugh Donald presented all the graduating Blues seniors and quite much needed funds were raised in the fun filled event. Oh we almost forgot the dancing to the Blues afterwards. We hope to get some photos of your favorite club members in attendance.

Blues News would like to recognize the contribution of club president Dave Mildrew along with Gary Munoz who along with all the other volunteers were instrumental in the success of this enjoyable fund raising evening.

Gotcha's 7th Annual Surf and Snow Wear fund raiser went on without a hitch except for early December's bad weather. While the rain kept a few people away from the sale, still this year's sale was bigger than last.

The Gotcha sale is our biggest and most important fundraising event of the year and with a portion of the sale proceeds the Blues have been able to keep membership dues lower than most competitive soccer clubs. The only way to continue to keep fees down is to continue to support all fundraising efforts.

A Blues News thanks to Gotcha for their generosity, and to all the great volunteers from all organizations who helped make the sale a success. See you all next year.

If you missed the Blues golf tournament fund raiser, you missed a spectacular event. Not only did the Blues club raise needed operating funds, but those who attended had a blast doing it.

The morning began with a gourmet continental breakfast at the exclusive Marbella Country Club, you name it they had it. Golfers began checking in and each got a great package complete with special Blues golf hats and awesome Blues golf jackets, not to mention golf balls. If you didn't know how to golf the balls came in real handy. A few of the golfers even purchased cigars for the majestic 18 holes of golf that awaited them.

The tournament itself was relaxing and enjoyable for both newbies and experts due to the scramble format which allowed the foursome to use the best shot. There were various contests such as putting and hole in ones with prizes ranging all the way to a brand new auto.

After the golf everyone settled into the refreshments and a fundraising dinner that included both a silent and live auction with an awesome auctioneer. The item of the evening was the autographed Michael Jordan Bulls jersey which went for over $2000 and was donated by Upper Deck Trading Cards.

Also at the dinner was a raffle and recognition of the Blues senior class as coach Hugh Donald announced where each of the seniors would be furthering their education. These girls who will graduate in June of 1998 have all been added to our list of alumni which continues to grow.

Aside from a hard working committee of parents the man responsible for this fabulous event was Gary Munoz. Blues News and the entire Blues organization are forever indebted to Gary for his continued generosity and most of all his undying friendship to the club and it's members. Thank you Gary!
